kunmingdayone.jpgFor the first time in three years on the China Tour, Zhou Xun Shu saw his name on the big leaderboard on Friday during the opening round of the Kunming Leg of the Omega China Tour at the Nick-Faldo-designed Lakeview Golf Club. Zhou entered the clubhouse with a share of the lead after starting the tournament with a 3-under 69 (this also led to Zhou’s first in-tournament media interview). At the end of the day, Zhou found himself 3 back and in a five-way tie for fourth place. Zhou’s best finish so far on the tour was an 8th on the Guangzhou Leg in June.

Late charge leads to respectable Shanghai finish

Zhou Xun Shu fought through back pain and a poor second round to finish a respectable 28th in the Shanghai Leg of the China Tour at Grand Shanghai International Golf & Holiday Resort (大上海国际高尔夫球度假村) in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. Things could have been much worse for Zhou, who after a 12-over 84 on Day 2 found himself tied for 61st and at risk of not making the cut to play on the weekend. He barely slipped in — he was among the last group of players to make the cut — and then vaulted 33 spots after rounds of 75 and 72. Zhou, who has a history of back trouble, tweaked his back after the Yanji Leg, and sought the help of his traditional Chinese medicine masseuse in Chongqing. The therapy wasn’t enough, as Zhou was in pain for much of the Shanghai Leg.

Zhou earned RMB 8,700 (before tax) for his showing and now stands at 14th on the Omega China Tour Order of Merit and 16th on the overall China money list, which includes non-China Tour events, as well. You can view the leaderboard for the Shanghai Leg (and all other legs) here. Zhou’s Shanghai scorecard appears below.
