Yanji, Day 4: Even par, 14th place

zhouyanji0715.jpgZhou Xun Shu knocked in four birdies (to go with four bogeys) to finish the Yanji Golf Championship with an even-par 72, his best round of the tournament. The effort moved him up 13 places in the final standings to a respectable 14th at Yanji Harangang Golf Resort in far northeast China. Zhou will receive around RMB 12,000 (before tax) in prize money, which should leave a small profit after his travel expenses are factored in.

Yanji, Day 3: Eat your greens

Zhou Xun Shu followed a disappointing second round 7-over 79 effort with a 73 on Saturday, putting him at 11-over and tied for 27th place heading into the final round of the China Tour’s Yanji Golf Championship on the Mountain Course at Yanji Harangang Golf Resort. If he manages to squeak into the top 20, Zhou might be able to break even financially for the events. Yanji is located in a remote part of northeastern China near the North Korean border — flights to the city aren’t cheap.

Not even the tournament leader, Chen Xiaoma at 1-over, is under par after three rounds. Zhou, and many other golfer, blame the course’s undulating greens for the high scores. Some are fast, some are slow, and they all are hard to read.

“It’s so easy to three putt here,” Zhou said. “I missed a lot of birdie putts today.”

Zhou tees off at 9:42 am on Sunday. Follow all the action with live scoring here. The official Omega China Tour site has coverage in English. Sina also has good coverage in Chinese.
